What is not covered

Kia excludes EV System and Lithium-Ion Polymer Battery damage or failure caused by:

  • Ambient temperatures above 122F (50C) for over 24 hours, or storage below -22F (-30C) for over seven days.
  • Leaving the vehicle over 14 days where the battery reaches a zero or near zero state of charge.
  • Physically damaging the battery, intentionally attempting to reduce its life, exposing it to a direct flame, or immersing any portion of it in water or fluids.
  • Opening the battery enclosure, or having it serviced by someone other than a Kia certified EV technician.
  • Neglecting to follow correct charging procedures, or use of incompatible charging devices.
  • Damage to the charge port or vehicle components caused by a public charger, a non-Kia supplied charge cord, or other third party EVSE; and incidental or consequential damage caused by the failure to repair an existing problem.

Scope note

Kia writes one Warranty and Consumer Information Manual per model year for its electric vehicles rather than one per model, and the 2024 electric-vehicle edition is the one read here; nothing in it names the EV9. The 2025 and 2026 electric-vehicle editions are not on Kia's own hosts; Kia's undated US warranty page states the same ten-year, 100,000-mile terms and 70% floor for those years, and the exclusions and transfer terms above are the 2024 edition's. The manual delivered with a specific car is the authority for that car.
