Transfers to a second ownerYes, at no cost. Tesla's support page attaches the condition that the ownership transfer is performed through Tesla
Whole warranty voided byA defaced VIN, a tampered odometer, a branded or unclean title, or a vehicle an insurer has declared a total loss

The two mileage tiers

Tesla's warranty document and its support page name the trims differently, so both lists are given.

CoverageWarranty document namesSupport page names
8 years or 100,000 miles (160,000 km), minimum 70% retentionModel Y Standard or Standard Range PlusModel Y RWD, Model Y AWD
8 years or 120,000 miles (192,000 km), minimum 70% retentionModel Y Long Range or PerformanceModel Y Premium RWD, Model Y Premium AWD, Model Y Performance AWD, Model Y L Premium Launch Series
  • Read the list your car's paperwork uses; the two vocabularies do not overlap.
  • Drivetrain letters do not decide it: "AWD" appears in both support-page rows, attached to different trim names.
  • A car whose name is in neither list is under an older warranty document; the booklet delivered with the car is the authority for it.
  • Per-car coverage is in the Tesla app, on the Specs & Warranty screen's Warranty tab.

ZEV warranties

  • These are separate coverages, not part of the Battery and Drive Unit Limited Warranty.
  • The 70% defect standard — battery capacity not falling below 70% through defects in material and workmanship — belongs to the Battery ZEV Limited Warranty, not to coverage on a pre-2026 Model Y.

What is excluded

  • Intentional actions, including abusing or destroying the vehicle or ignoring active vehicle warnings or service notifications.
  • A collision or accident, other than damage from a battery fire.
  • Servicing or opening the Battery or Drive Unit by non-Tesla or non-certified personnel.
  • Extending or reducing the battery's life by physical means or programming; direct flame; flooding.
  • Noticeable performance changes caused by software updates.
  • Battery fire damage is covered even from driver error, except damage sustained before the fire and any damage if the fire occurred after the vehicle had already been totaled.

Scope note

Both sources are the ones Tesla publishes today: a warranty document effective 2025/06/05 and Tesla's current support page. Neither states a model year for the Model Y coverage tiers. This sheet does not map Tesla's older trim names onto its current ones, because no Tesla document opened for it states that mapping.
